Leading Web Search Engine Saves Millions of Dollars with Supply Chain solutions from Global Spend Solutions
SITUATION OVERVIEW: Sandy Fortin hired Dorian Kendal of Global Spend Solutions after taking on a high-level supply chain management project at a leading web search engine. Once engaged, Dorian performed a resource study for the infrastructure supply chain team, implemented a worldwide stocking program, a global MRB inventory returns progam; and developed requirements for a global asset tracking solution.
The Challenge
My small group of global supply chain project coordinators was under the gun; we didn’t have a lot of processes in place. We were constantly chasing orders and putting out fires. We knew there were things we could do to improve efficiency and optimization, but we could never get there. Our resources were scarce.
When I took on a worldwide stocking project, I had a huge task ahead of me. I knew Dorian had a background in supply chain. I had seen his Logistics Analysis . Resources
My group was limping along and couldn’t get resources. Dorian suggested a resource study to look at areas of optimization. He met with the people in my group and created a comprehensive time and motion study, as well as identified areas of improvement. From this he was able to define the ideal situation and equated it to the number of headcount required. He’s amazing.
Inventory Management
After I brought him onto my team, Dorian worked with internal customers to help identify the optimal inventory levels and hub and spoke infrastructure for a worldwide inventory program. His recommendations ultimately led to a significant reduction in our inventory.
One of Dorian’s greatest achievements was the creation of a global equipment-returns program. Prior to Dorian’s work, our company found it nearly impossible to reinventory and redeploy equipment. We had no tools or processes in place. Our used equipment would just sit idle in warehouses. He led this project from start to finish. He set up global returns centers, designed tools to manage returns, trained engineers, engaged our legal imports team, and worked with our logistics group to ensure that items could flow back into inventory seamlessly. His work resulted in a significant spend avoidance.
